"They do say it is a slow and steady climb up Kili....so I guess it will be at a "Turtle" pace for you Wayno!!!
At least you won't need to worry about a tent....just curl up in your shell every night!!"

About Me
Nickname : Wayno
Day Job : Engineering / Construction Surveyor
Past Kilimanjaro treks : None, my uncle and a very good friend have both done it and it has been an ambition for some time.
Hiking Experience : Nothing too official but I grew up in South Africa and did plenty of exploring around the Drakensberg (th mountain range inland from Durban). I have also hiked up Table Mountain and Lions Head in Cape Town a couple of times each, enjoyable hikes but certainly no Kilimanjaro.
I'm doing this trek because : The oppurtunity arose through Land Surveys, the company that I work for, and I felt it was a great oppurtunity to make a contribution to a fantastic foundation. Having known people very close to my family that have gone through hard times due to various types of cancer, makes me very proud to be part of this movement to raise the 100k.
What I hope to achieve : Well, the obvious one is getting to the summit and returning in one piece, which I believe to quite a serious achievement, and hopefully I can meet some really great people along the way. And then as I mentioned before being a part of this team raising 100k for the BCFWA is a wonderful achievement in it's self.
I am being sponsored / supported by : Land Surveys and Decmil Australia, I would like to thank Peter Rullo of Land Surveys for putting forward the initial proposal and donation, and Dickie Dique of Decmil Australia for his very generous donation. Another thank you to all the crew that I work with for their great support and donations. I would also like to thank all my friends and family for their support thus far..

Beep Test
I have been going to the gym to get started with some training for the expedition, I also took part in a fun run a few weeks ago which I will post some pictures from when I get a chance. On Saturday night a did a bit of hill training which good although really tough. And then for the first time last night I did a beep test, which absolutely took it out of me. Sounds like you've been pretty busy with training, that's great! I'm enjoying the training, considering I hadn't done any for far too long. It's great to have the focus of the climb and the support of an awesome team behind us .... Guess it's only going to get tougher!
